The 43rd Milan-San Remo Classicissimawas held on March 19, 1952.

The media put forward a list of favorites for the 1952 M-SR: Louison Bobet (defending M-SR champion), Ferdi Kubler (reigning World RR Champion), Italian sprinter Loretto Petrucci (third at M-SR 1951) and the 37-year-old Campionissimo Gino Bartali.

SPECIAL NOTE: Fausto Coppi entered but was recovering from the untimely death of his brother Serse (victim of a fatal crash at the Giro del Piemonte).

When the starter’s flag dropped the usual breakaways happened. Part of the aggressive racing had Fausto Coppi attacking early on the plains of Lombardia. Coppi’s danger-move crumbled when Fiorenzo Magni’s Ganna team closed the gap.
